NILES -- Brian L. Penick, 68, of Niles, passed away on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Brian was born on Oct. 9, 1957, to William "Bill" and Inez Penick.
He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University and went on to build a life defined by hard work, service, and, above all, devotion to his family.
Brian had a true passion for firefighting and proudly dedicated many years of his life to the fire service. He served with the McKinley Heights Volunteer Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant, and also served with the Blue Ridge Mountain Fire Co. His years as a firefighter were an important part of his life, and he took tremendous pride in serving his community alongside his fellow firefighters. The friendships, camaraderie, and memories he made during his years in the fire service remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Following his years with the fire department, Brian built a long career in the trucking industry. Не served as an Operations Manager at Path Trucklines and continued working in the industry for many years before his retirement. He was respected for his work ethic, knowledge, leadership and dedication throughout his career.
Brian shared 45 years of marriage with his wife, Margie Penick. Together, they built a family that became the greatest source of pride and happiness in his life.
He was a loving father to his two children, Christine (Frank) Pilato and Brian J. (Rachel) Penick; and a proud grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Wayne Penick, Aeydin Penick, Giada Pilato, Guilianna Pilato, Shea Penick, Collin Penick and Giacomo Pilato. He was also blessed to become a great-grandfather to James Penick.
Brian cherished his family deeply. Some of his greatest joys came from simply spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson and being a part of their lives. The memories they created together will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
In his spare time, Brian enjoyed golfing. Whether on the golf course, spending time with his family, or reminiscing about his years in the fire service, Brian appreciated the people and experiences that made his life meaningful.
Brian is also survived by his nieces, Nicole Penick, Kayla Mounce and Lindsay Connell; and his nephews, Nick Connell and Michael Bates, along with extended family, friends, former coworkers, and members of the firefighting community, whose lives he touched over the years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Penick; his father, William "Bill" Penick; and his brother, Mark Penick.
Brian will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, dedicated firefighter, hardworking professional and loyal friend. His 45-year marriage to Margie, his years of service to his community, and the family he loved so dearly are the legacy he leaves behind.
In accordance with Brian's wishes, cremation will take place.
A mass and Celebration of Life honoring Brian will be scheduled at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather, share memories and celebrate a life well lived. Brian's service to his community will be remembered with gratitude, but his love for his family will be remembered forever.
