NILES -- Ruth M. Candio, 80, of Niles, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Shepherd of The Valley Liberty.
She was born Jan. 26, 1946, in Warren, the daughter of Walter and Catherine Regal Thompson.
Ruth was a 1964 graduate of Lakeview High School and a 1968 graduate of Hiram College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors.
She was employed as a legal assistant for the law firms of Millstone and Kannensohn and Werner, Suit, and Corry, retiring in 1996. She taught English at Niles McKinley Schools and was a substitute teacher there for several years.
She was a member of St. Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading, and she was a marathon runner.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Maurice "Moe" Candio, whom she married Feb. 28, 1993; her two stepdaughters, Christina (Mark) Drotar of East Palestine and Dena Haswell of Medina; and her three daughters, Michelle Killian of Madison, Wisconsin, Cynthia (JA) Coody of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Katy (Henry) Molina of Arizona; her sister, Kathleen Wood of Cortland; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements handled by the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
