CHAMPION -- Neal D. Irwin III, 87, of Champion, passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 31, 1938, in Franklin, Pa., son of Neal Douglas Irwin Jr. and Hazel Mays.
Neal married his high school sweetheart, the former Carol Jones on Nov. 2, 1957.
Neal was a 1956 graduate of Harding High School. He worked as a tool and die maker at Packard Electric until his retirement.
Neal was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder and chairman of the congregation.
He was a longtime member of the Trumbull Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed target shooting. Neal also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially riding with his son. He enjoyed history and loved to read. Neal was a devoted husband and father who was always ready to help and care for his family. Relaxing on the couch with his dog, Dottie, snoring beside him, munching on peanuts and drinking a Pepsi were some of his happiest moments.
Neal is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol Irwin; daughter, Sue Hall; son, Doug (Tammy) Irwin; grandchildren, Laura (Nick) DeForest, Gregory Hall, Elizabeth (Mike) Schulte and Bob Irwin; along with great-grandchildren, Brianna DeForest, Michael Hall, Kendra Hall, and Silas and Ben Schulte.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. A funeral service conducted by an old family friend, Rev. Ron Starcher, will follow visitation at the funeral home.
There will be a committal service at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Champion Township Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
