Loretta S. Morton 1943-2026

WARREN — Evangelist Loretta Stewart Morton, 82, departed this life at 10:35 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley Howland, following complications of extended illness.

She was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Warren, a daughter of James and Geneva McCoy Stewart.

Loretta was employed for 31 years as an assembler at General Motors Packard Electric before retiring in 1993. She also was a published author, writing poetry, plays and short stories. She was a 1961 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.

She was a member of Greater Apostolic Faith Church for 44 years, serving as an evangelist, on the Mother’s Board, in Sunday school, in the choir, as superintendent of Sunday school and in vacation Bible school. She also taught Bible study. She was also a member of the TCIMA Community Choir and enjoyed puzzles, movies and reading.

She married Robert Morton on Jan. 25, 1964; he died Aug. 4, 1982.

She leaves to mourn one son, Ronnie (Amy) Morton of Freemont; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn (Pastor Vincent I) Peterson of Howland; three grandchildren, Pastor Vincent (Shanice) Peterson II of Howland, Darrius (Tessa) Morton of Marquette, Michigan, and Eriq (Emily) Morton of Monroe, Michigan; one granddaughter, Mrs. Amber (Austin) Hutchins of Howland; five great-grandchildren, Sophia, Gianna, Lorenzo, Hugo and Aria; one sister-in-law, Ms. Doris Griggs of Warren; and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ms. Geneva Lyn Morton; two brothers, James Stewart and John Stewart; one sister, Mrs. Mary Stewart Owens; and one brother-in-law, Richard D. Owens.

Funeral services will take place at noon Friday, July 3, 2026, at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, with calling hours 11 a.m. to noon.

Burial will take place in Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery.
