James A. Richburg 1956-2026
WARREN — James Alvin “Burg” Richburg, 70, died Thursday, June 25, 2026, at home.
He was born May 10, 1956, in Warren, the third child of the late Robert Richburg and Aslean Jackson-Richburg.
He attended Washington Elementary, East Junior High School, Warren G. Harding High School, Youngstown State University and San Jose State University in California.
James “Burg” was a standout All-Ohio quarterback and defensive back who led the Warren G. Harding Panthers to the state championship in the 1970s. His athleticism allowed him to shine on both sides of the ball, routinely seeing minutes at both quarterback and safety. In 1972, he played a notable game against Massillon, recording a 40-yard drive and completing passes. He was well-known for his clutch performance and exceptional decision-making in critical rivalry matchups.
He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Aslean Jackson-Richburg of Warren; son, Yu-Juan Douglas, also of Warren; three sisters, Jacqueline Richburg of Buffalo, New York, Valerie (Donnie) Alexander of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jeniece (Bruce) Howard of Warren; one brother, Michael (Sandra) Peason of Warren; sister-in-law, Linda Richburg of Warren; three nieces and five nephews, Willie Jr., Charmesa, Tiffany, Gary, Delshawn, Christian, Alishia and Antwon; five great-nephews, Jayln, Willie III, Erinn, Victorious and Quest; three great-nieces, Wynter, Deonna and Amari; special friend, Cherry McDonell; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Richburg; grandmother, Armilla Johnson; and brothers, Willie Sr. and Andre.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, where a memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., officiated by Evangelist Missionary Charmesa Brown. All who know and love James are welcome to attend and celebrate his incredible life.
