Donald E. Jurkovic 1940-2026

WARREN -- Donald E. "Izzy" Jurkovic, 86, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born on June 14, 1940, in Warren, to the late Isador and Bertha Pavick Jurkovic.

Don was a 1958 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked for 38 years as a craneman at Copperweld Steel. He was also a member of the Slovak Club, where he proudly served as manager for five years.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who looked forward each year to hunting bear, caribou and other game during trips to Canada and Alaska. He also took great pride in building the family's A-frame cabin in Tionesta, Pa., where he hosted countless hunting trips. Over the years, "The A-frame" became a cherished gathering place for family and friends, where many lasting memories were made.

Don shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Anita. Together they enjoyed golfing, spending 15 happy years living in Spring Hill, Florida and rarely missed a Saturday night dancing the jitterbug.

Above all, Don was a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with those he loved. He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, zest for life and the love he shared as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Anita; his children, Brian (Kelli) Villio, John Hunter and Shannon (Rick) Mowery; his grandchildren, Jaime Moore, Josef Hunter, Ella Hunter and Shawna Rae Fron; his brothers, Jim (Diane) Jurkovic and Pat (Jenny) Jurkovic; and several nieces and nephews, including his nephew, Michael McGrath.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Vennitti.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren.

Interment will follow in All Souls Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered in recognition of Don's faithful service to his country.
