PATASKALA -- Sarah Catherine Renner Platt passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
She was born Nov. 4, 1929, the eldest of three children, to Edward William and Elva Irene Smail Renner of Scottdale, Pa., both deceased.
She graduated in the June 1947 class of Warren G. Harding High School. While in school, she was active in all school activities, including the National Honor Society, and in 1946 was given the honor of the title "Queen" of the annual "Crystal Ball."
After graduation, she was employed by the Warren Telephone Company and later by Dr. Charles White D.D.S., where she became a certified dental assistant. She also worked at Daniels Motor Freight. Moving to Columbus in 1959, she was employed at Western Electric (AT&T Network Systems) for 29 years.
She married Carroll G. Platt in 1961 and remained married for 41 years, until 2002, when he passed away.
She was a member of Stonybrook Methodist Church in Gahanna. She was a 65-year member of Reber Chapter 161 (Evans 191) of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron numerous times and secretary for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Worthington Chapter #287 OES, Grand Representative of Massachusetts in Ohio from 1983 to 1984; 17th district president (1980); state president of OES District Officers Association (1990); Past Queen (1991); Banker of Thebes Temple 87, Daughters of the Nile for 19 years; member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America for over 40 years; and charter member of Harmony Court Order of the Amaranth and the Telephone Pioneers.
Sarah was an avid reader and loved to sew and crochet, especially for the children at Shriners Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
As active as she was in the fraternal organizations, her family came first and she loved them best of all.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joey and brother-in-law, Julius Nagy of Mount Vernon; stepson, Raymond J. Platte; and stepdaughter, Alice L. Platte.
She is survived by her son, Robert C. (Sandy) Platte; brother, Edward (Cindy) Renner of Warren; grandchildren, Robert M. (Beth) Platte and Amy L. Wagner; stepgrandson, Michael (Kelly) Platte of New Albany; stepgranddaughter, Suzanne (Matt) Beaky of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Andrew Ward, Hanna and Hayden Wagner, Lincoln and Kenny Platte; stepgreat-grandchildren, Chloe, Cassidy and Ray Platte; her great-great-granddaughter, Ellie; great-great-grandson, Eli Ward; several nieces and nephews; and five cousins in Scottdale, Pa.
A private committal service will take place for the family at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Columbus.
