CHAMPION -- It is with great sadness the Callahan family announces the passing of Richard E. Callahan, 95, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who died Saturday, June 20, 2026, surrounded by his family at his home in Champion.
Richard was born April 30, 1931, to Charles and Florence Callahan of Grove City, Pa. He was one of six Callahan brothers.
Richard served in the Marine Corps before being honorably discharged to help care for his younger brothers after the tragic death of his beloved mother. He had various jobs before finding employment at a job he loved as a crane operator at Thomas Steel, where he was employed for more than 40 years.
Richard married the love of his life, Margaret Davis, on April 20, 1957; they were happily wed for 66 years.
He caught the travel bug in the Marine Corps and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Richard was a voracious reader and loved history. He had a great sense of humor and a sly smile that would light up when family gathered. A devoted family man, he cared for his wife full-time during the final years of her life.
Richard will be deeply missed by his children, Michael (Kathy) Callahan of Champion and Susan (Tim) Cook of Howland; grandchildren, Katie (Jonathan) McGrath, Eric (Samantha) Callahan, Matthew (Alexis) Callahan and Samuel Cook; and great-grandchildren, Niamh McGrath, Jamie and Sydney Callahan, and Colby and Rooney Callahan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; and his brothers, William, James, Charles, Robert and John.
A private memorial service and burial will take place at a later date.
