Raymond R. Knapp 1942-2026

CHAMPION - Raymond R. Knapp, 83, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

He was born June 22, 1942, in Beckley, W.Va., a son of Raymond James Knapp and Carrie Burr Knapp.

Raymond was a longtime member of Champion Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a greeter, Sunday school teacher, and groundskeeper and led a community volleyball ministry for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening; watching and playing sports; telling jokes, of which he always had one to share; and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Bias Knapp of Champion, whom he married Feb. 28, 1964; sons, Rex (Melissa) Knapp of Evans, Georgia, Tim (Barb) Knapp of Diamond and Matt (Cathy) Knapp of Champion; sisters, Dixie Harris, Eleanor (Terry) Austin and Ramona Sherosky; grandchildren, Kelsey (Andrew) Norcross of Collins, Brooke (Brandon) Ferry of Bristolville, Allyson Knapp of St. Louis, Missouri, Tyler (Ashley) Knapp of Columbus, Hannah (Blake) Finnerty of North Augusta, South Carolina, Natalie Knapp of Cortland and Stephen (Amy) Knapp of Evans, Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Margaret and Brooks Norcross, Blake and Barrett Ferry, and Ava Knapp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Knapp; and brothers-in-law, Bruce Sherosky, Alvin Harris and David Antonell.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Champion Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Wayne Sweely and Pastor George Gribbon Jr. will officiate.

Friends may call 3 to 4 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
