Judith A. Buckner 1947-2026

CORTLAND — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith A. Buckner, 79, who peacefully left this world around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Born and raised in Ohio, Judy was known for her unwavering kindness, generous spirit and the immense love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Judy was a proud graduate of Mathews High School. She dedicated many years of hard work to United Telephone, later Sprint Communications, from which she retired. She was also a longtime member of the Cortland Moose, where she enjoyed fellowship and community.

She had a heart that welcomed all, a gentle nature that brought comfort to others and a quiet strength that made a lasting impact on her family and friends. Judy truly left this world a little better than she found it. More than anything else, Judy was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family and granddogs.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Clarissa Craig; and her brother, David Urpi.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie Governor (Richard Governor), Hollie Loughrey (Richard Loughrey), Craig Buckner (Victoria Buckner) and Joe Buckner (Angie Buckner); her beloved grandchildren, Miranda Governor, Grahm Governor, Sara Governor, Cory Hull, Monique Hull, Kyle Donley, Keflyn Donley, Ryan Buckner, Lindsay Buckner, Nicole Buckner, Peyton Buckner and Tyler Buckner; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Marilee Rose Buckner, Isabella Vernon and Drake Vernon.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Judy’s compassion, warmth and selfless love will continue to live on and inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St., Cortland.

The family asks that Judy be remembered for the remarkable way she lived — with kindness, grace and a heart full of love.
