Helen Louise Gless 1937-2026

FOWLER — Helen Louise Gless, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Helen was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Morgantown, W.Va., to the late Frank Kirchmar and Anna Robinson.

She was blessed to share 64 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Richard A. Gless, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.

Helen began her career at Packard Electric and she later worked at Neal School and McDonald’s. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fowler Fire Department.

For more than eight-and-a-half years, Helen opened her heart and home as a foster parent, providing a loving family to 18 children of various ages.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved brother and sisters, James Kirchmar, Norma Bishoff, Arlene Shannon and Betty Hamrick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Gless; and her brother, Frank Kirchmar.

Helen will be deeply missed by her children, Carolyn (Pete) of Yorktown, Virginia, David (Cindy) of Niceville, Florida, Richard (Carla) of Bazetta, and Pam (Greg) of Fowler; her grandchildren, Jason, Derek, Eric, Brandy, Christopher (deceased), Jeremy, Ashley, Mark, Mike, Todd, Heidi and Craig; as well as 17 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.

Family and friends may call 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St., Cortland, OH 44410.

A memorial service celebrating Helen’s life will begin at 6 p.m., officiated by Richard “Rick” Gless.
