Gerald D. Schoonover 1930-2026

NILES — Gerald D. Schoonover, 95, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Washington Square Healthcare Center.

He was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Belington, W.Va., the son of Stewart Schoonover and Desimae England Schoonover.

Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Gerald retired from General Motors and was a member of the UAW and FFA as a young boy.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Hayes of Niles; sons, Gregory Schoonover of Bristol and Tommy (Robin) Schoonover of Champion; grandchildren, Ronald “Joe” (Stephanie) Nicholas of Newton Falls, Cindy (Terrance) Finney, Nickole Hayes and Gregory (Jessica) Schoonover, all of Warren, Christina (Lee) Hillier of Cortland, Gerald (Christine) Nicholas of Farmdale, Jeremy Schoonover of California and Alicia Schoonover of Bristol; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley B. (George) Schoonover; son, Danny Schoonover; daughter, Sherry Nicholas; son-in-law, Roy Hayes; brother, Glen Schoonover; sisters, Joanne Everson, Carol Hillard and Geraldine Schoonover; and stillborn twin brothers.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2026, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, Warren.

Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park, Warren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
