George A. Drew 1958-2026

CORTLAND — George A. Drew, 68, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, June 3, 2026, at his residence.

George was born Jan. 6, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of William and Betty Drew.

He was a graduate of Penn Hills High School, Pittsburgh, and continued his education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering and material science. He worked at Aptiv, formerly Packard Electric, in Warren.

He was a co-author of the “Electrical Contacts” book and received over 30 automotive and material patents, including the patent for the color of the high-voltage wire in electric car batteries. He is in the Packard Innovations Hall of Fame and was a docent at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown.

He had a creative mind and would always be found tinkering with anything he could fix. He built bicycles from scratch and enjoyed wind surfing.

George will be deeply missed by his parents, William and Betty Drew; his loving wife, Linda Drew; children, Kelley (Connor) Bowman and Michael (Shannon) Drew; granddaughters, Audrey Bowman and Millie Drew; brother, Steve (Valerie) Drew; and sisters, Susan Dishart and Ellen (Richard) Sansonetti.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Per George’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services.
