WARREN -- Douglas MacArthur Stevenson Skaggs, 83, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026.
He was born in May 1943 in the family home in Rich Creek, W.Va., to Steve and Bertie Skaggs.
At the age of 22, Douglas proudly answered the call to serve his country, entering the United States Army in April 1965. He served as a private and was stationed in Korea with Battery B, 7th Battalion, 17th Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division, where he served as a cannoneer. After leaving the U.S. Army, Douglas became a very proud West Virginia coal miner.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Bertie Skaggs; several brothers and sisters; and Steve Miller, whom he always considered a son.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Darrelene Skaggs, whom he loved with a passion most will never know; his eldest son, Douglas (Stasia) Skaggs of Cuyahoga Falls and their children, Katelyn, Johanna and Douglas; the only and the "bestest" daughter, Melissa Miller and her children, Samantha Miller of Howland and Ryder Miller of Chicago; youngest son, Roy Skaggs of Warren; his beautiful sisters, Doris Hawkins and Mary Withrow; brothers-in-law, Jim (Fern) Boylen of Mentor and Roy (Sue) Boylen of Madison; along with an extensive family of nieces, nephews and cousins, both in Ohio and West Virginia.
Douglas lived an exceptional life filled with hard work, dedication and love for his family. Throughout his career, he held many roles, but one of his favorites was being part of the Mocha House family, where he formed lasting friendships and touched the lives of many people.
Douglas will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic and the kindness he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
His life, legacy and his fierce determination shall be celebrated 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Hippodrome Event Center, 150 High St. NE, Warren, OH 44481.
