MECCA -- Cynthia A. "Cindy" Shafer, 73, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Cindy retired from Sprint after 33 years of dedicated service.
She was a member of Mecca Community Church since 1983, where she faithfully served in countless ways throughout the years. She was especially known for playing the organ, serving as the church custodian and lovingly caring for the church grounds. Her unwavering faith, servant's heart, and dedication to her church and community touched the lives of many.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 42 years, Roger K. Shafer; her son, Nathaniel (Nicole) Shafer; her stepdaughter, Chrysteen (Matthew) Kresha; her stepson, Keith (Bridget) Shafer; her cherished grandchildren, Eowyn Luna Kresha, Kaden Shafer and Kaelyn Shafer; and her sisters, Marilyn Fritch and Anita Easter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Kay; her brother, Ronnie Kay; and her sister, Marsha Leek.
Family and friends may call 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Mecca Community Church, 5920 Phillips Rice Road, Cortland, OH 44410. A funeral service celebrating Cindy's life will begin at noon Thursday at the church.
Interment will follow in West Mecca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cindy's memory to Mecca Community Church.
