Charles J. Barrett Sr. 1934-2026
WARREN — Charles J. Barrett Sr., 91, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Born Oct. 5, 1934, in Watkins, Pa., Charles was the son of Vincent and Matilda Trinkley Barrett.
A graduate of Watkins High School, Charles went on to serve his country honorably as a member of the United States Army, stationed in Germany during his military tenure. Following his service, he began an impressive 42-year career at Copperweld, where he worked with distinction as a recorder. His dedication and professionalism earned him the esteemed Employee of the Year award, a testament to his work ethic and the respect he garnered from colleagues.
Charles’s devotion extended beyond his professional life into his spiritual and community roles. He was an active member of St. Mary Church, generously volunteering his time as a Eucharistic minister and lecturer. His eagerness to serve was evident in every task he undertook, including assisting with painting projects to maintain the beauty of the church, notably helping to restore the church statues. One of his proudest and most humble accomplishments was the anonymous donation of the baptismal font at St. Mary Church, a meaningful gift made in honor of his granddaughter’s baptism.
Known for his green thumb and love of gardening, Charles always had the most vibrant garden on the block, a reflection of the care and patience he brought to all endeavors. His talents also included house painting. Above all, Charles loved most the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Bernadette (Dennis) Luoma of Meadville, Pa.; son, Vincent A. (Donna) Barrett of Cortland; and his cherished grandchildren, Nicole Luoma, Dominic (Elizabeth) Barrett, Chaz Barrett and Eric Barrett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose A. Mercenzo Barrett, whom he married June 30, 1956, and who died Nov. 7, 2018, the couple having shared 62 loving years together; his son Charles “Chuck” Barrett Jr.; granddaughter, Amber Denise Barrett; his parents; and siblings, Theresa Weakland, Betty Kantz, Catherine Sherif, Michael Barrett and Bud Barrett.
The Barrett family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Renee Ivory, Charles’ devoted caretaker, whose compassion and support provided comfort and dignity in his final days.
