Thomas E. Montgomery 1954-2026

NEWTON TOWNSHIP — Thomas E. Montgomery, age 71, of Newton Township, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday morning, May 14, 2026, at Continuing Healthcare at the Ridge in Mineral Ridge.

He was born on May 18, 1954, in Warren, the son of the late James Leonard Montgomery and Justine Mable Schmidt Montgomery.

Tom lived in Newton Falls all of his life, and graduated from Newton Falls High School in the Class of 1972.

He married the love of his life, Lue Ella Wright, on May 31, 1988, and they enjoyed 37 years of wonderful marriage together.

Tom worked at General Refractories in Champion as a factory worker for 26 years, retiring in 2020. He also worked at Universal Steel in North Jackson for eight years.

Tom was a member of the General Assembly Church of God in Newton Falls and the local Square Dancing Club in Leavittsburg.

He loved throwing horse shoes, playing guitar, singing karaoke, playing board games with his family, square dancing with his wife, watching all the Cleveland sports teams, the Green Bay Packers, and coaching his kids and grandkids in baseball and softball.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Harley N. Bradley.

He is survived by his wife, Lue Ella Montgomery of Newton Falls; four daughters, Marsha and Keith Allen of Warren, Shelly Bradley of Newton Falls, Ann and Steven Dew of Lordstown and Mary Taylor of Canton; two sons, Thomas J. Montgomery of Champion and David McNeal of Newton Falls; one brother, James Michael and Vickie Montgomery of Saint Albans, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with Pastor Mitch Meadors officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Cremation will follow the service.

The family has requested that all donations be made to the General Assembly Church of God, 2021 East River Road, Newton Falls, OH 44444, in his name.
