Ronald L. Mickel 1954-2026

NILES — The world lost a truly wonderful man the morning of Thursday, May 7, 2026, as Ronald L. Mickel, 72, entered into eternal rest, joining his beloved wife, Heather.

Ron was born on May 5, 1954, in Warren, a son to Charles R. and Helen L. Mickel. He was a 1972 graduate of Champion High School.

During his career, he worked in several capacities at the General Motors plant in Lordstown, and retired in 2018 as a Team Leader, after 35 years. He was a proud union member of the UAW Local #1112, where he served the membership as a committeeman.

A man of boundless love, kindness, and a bit of “cheek,” he had an incredible sense of humor and could be spotted laughing and smiling almost always.

In his spare time, he was a huge fan of live music and a passionate concert goer, especially if it was a tribute to his favorite band, Pink Floyd. He also loved the summer; swimming in his pool, being outside, watching the Cleveland Guardians win, or sipping bourbon on the back deck. However, and most importantly, spending time with his late wife, children and grandbabies, gave him the most joy.

Above all else, Ron was the best father and husband. He always made sure his loved ones were taken care of. Time with them was the most important thing to him. He was taken from us suddenly and there is never enough time. He is missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gregory (Orisha) Mickel of Howland and David (Amanda) Mickel of Champion; daughters, Lindsey E. (Logan) Moritz of Chesterland and Christina L. (Adam) Carpenter of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Avery, Leah, Tyson, Jackson, Connor, Elizabeth, Grace, Nathan and Cameron; and his siblings, Donald (Claudia) Mickel of Bristolville and Sharon Branham of Niles; as well as countless friends and family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Heather A. Mickel, whom he married April 20, 1985.

The family is forever in debt to his neighbors, for all of their selfless acts in recent years and on the day of his passing.

A time of gathering in Ron’s honor will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, LLC, 379 State Route 7 SE, Brookfield, OH 44403.

A Celebration of Life for Ron will be planned and announced at a future date.

Expressions of sympathy may be left for his family at www.bricelandfuneralservice.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Niles Youth League, P.O. Box 5092, Niles OH 44446.
