Rebecca Chapin 1936-2026
BAZETTA — Rebecca Muresan Chapin, 90, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the comfort of her home, in the presence of family.
Rebecca was the youngest of 13 children, to parents who immigrated from Romania, John and Maria Arva Muresan. She grew up on the family farm and attended Champion Schools, eventually graduating from Mecca High School in 1953.
She married David Chapin in 1955 and had five children, Susan (Tim, late) O’Connor, Douglas (Juliet) Chapin, Sandi (John) Knepp, Darrin (Sevasti Tripoulas) Chapin and Stacey (Michael) Teeling.
Rebecca worked for Kennametal for more than 40 years, retiring in 1999.
She was a prominent, active member at Wildare Church, and handled accounting and bookkeeping for the congregation for many years.
Her hobbies included gardening, baking, and crocheting; and she loved working crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.
She greatly enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up, and planned or officiated games for them, indoors and outdoors, for years. She could be found in the audience or stands at plays, competitions, performances and sporting events for decades.
Rebecca is survived by her children mentioned above; grandchildren, Kelly, Kerry, Khristen, Michael, Patrick, Jackie, Debi, Tyler, Zachary, Ryan, Justin, Nadia, Dylan, Logan and Kaitlynne; and more than a dozen great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, David Chapin; her parents; brothers, John Jr., Aurel, George and Peter Muresan; and sisters, Anna Muresan, Aurelia Ross, Mary Spala, Celia McGinty, Georgene Muresan, Lena Shipman, Virginia Whitacre and Madeline Chronister.
The family extends its thanks to Hospice of the Valley and all staff involved in Rebecca’s care.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Wildare Church.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday.
Interment will be at Pineview Memorial Park.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
