Mildred Walker 1929-2026
WARREN — Mildred Walker passed away Monday, May 4, 2026, at her home with family members present while in the care of hospice; she had just celebrated her 97th birthday on May 2.
Mildred was a lifelong mom and a homemaker; she enjoyed quilting by hand, playing cards and winning a good hand of bid whist. She was especially fond of and known for working jigsaw puzzles — 1000-piece puzzles were her favorite. She had a very kind and polite personality and always gave a listening ear to everyone, including nieces and nephews, even though she had 10 kids of her own. Her smile brought warmth and comfort to others, and she’ll always be remembered for that. She also truly enjoyed the baseball season and often couldn’t wait for “those boys,” as she called the Cleveland Guardians, to start playing.
She married Benjamin Walker Sr. on Aug. 27, 1947; he preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Robinson; brother, Robert McKinney; her daughter, Faithful Elaine Smith, on Nov. 10, 2015; and one granddaughter, Aisha Austin, on Oct. 22, 2023.
Mildred leaves to mourn her children, Benjamin Walker Jr. (Ruby), Monette Parker (Kai) and Renee Allen, all of Warren; Sheldon Walker (Juanita) of Texas; Cheryl Brown (Jerry), Stacey Walker, Brian Walker, Carlton Walker and Kimberly Hughley (Chris), all of Warren; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Genevieve Breckenridge of California; and a host of nieces, nephews and their families who love her and think of her fondly.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, where services will begin 11 a.m. Friday, with Mildred’s son-in-law, Elder Jerry Brown, officiating.
All who knew and loved Mildred are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park.
