NILES -- Mary Grace Kraft, 83, passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at Continuing Healthcare of Niles.
She was born May 29, 1942, in Warren, the fifth child of Orlan J. Sloan and Ellen McGowan Sloan.
Mary Grace graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1960. Early in her life, she was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles, where she met her husband, then-Father Thomas D. Kraft. They were married in 1971. Mary Grace worked for several years at Wean Engineering, then was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, also spending many years working at her husband's private psychology practice, where she served as receptionist and office manager.
Mary Grace was a founding member of Chapter EE of PEO in 1977, supporting the advancement of women's education. She remained an active member for nearly 50 years, serving in many roles, including chapter president. She volunteered extensively at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where she served as president of the Pink Ladies volunteer program. She also gave her time to her daughter's schools and activities. A devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren for over 40 years, she was deeply involved in volunteer service there as well. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, plastic canvas crafts, Beanie Babies and playing the lottery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas D. Kraft; two sisters, Roberta M. Squiric and Elaine L. Sloan; and two brothers, James Sloan and John Sloan.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy K. Mistler of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Gail A. George (husband, Louie F. George) of Woodstock, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped care for Mary Grace throughout her illness. In particular, they wish to thank her longtime neighbor and dear friend, Susan Jeffers, whose kindness, endless patience and unwavering support brought comfort and dignity to Mary Grace in her final years. They also wish to thank Mary Grace's niece, Pam Pospisil, who served as a vital link of communication and coordination for the extended family and whose informed perspective, dedication and attentiveness made a meaningful difference during Mary Grace's illness.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Mary Grace's life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren.
