Lola M. York 1940-2026

MECCA -- Lola Marie York, 85, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 10, 2026, at Niles Way Senior Living in Niles.

Lola was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Meadville, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles Sparber and Della Walrath Longdue.

She was a 1959 graduate of Linesville High School and worked as a waitress for many years until 1984. She volunteered with the Red Cross for 17 1/2 years, where she prepared and served dinners for board meetings and special events. She was a former member of TOPS in Cortland and helped clean the donated coins from the Eastwood Mall fountains with her two volunteer friends.

Lola will be deeply missed by her children, Benjamin York and his partner, Carolyn Younce, Gary (Zoraida) York and Susan (Richard) Lawrence; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; her friend and neighbor, Ralph Phillips; and her friend, David Shaffer at Niles Way Senior Living.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Lee York, whom she married March 25, 1963, and who passed away Sept. 11, 2010; brothers, Charles, Alfred, Fredrick, George, John and Henry Sparber; and sisters, Martha Hanson, Alice Metaxa, Jean Russell and Ruth Meleski.

Per Lola's wishes, there are no calling hours or services. She will be buried with her husband in Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens, Maine.
