John E. Farnsworth Sr. 1948-2026

NEWTON FALLS — John E. Farnsworth Sr., 87, entered his heavenly home Thursday, May 7, 2026, surrounded by family.

John was born Feb. 15, 1948, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of Wanda and Donald Farnsworth. He attended school until the seventh grade and then stayed home to help his parents with 14 siblings.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1970 and was honorably discharged with the passing of his parents, so he could return home and assist the family.

After relocating to Ohio for work, he met his wife of 37 years, and the couple settled in West Farmington until 2023, when he moved to Newton Falls.

John was employed by Harrison Machine and Plastic until he returned to the oil field with Yost Drilling, from where he retired. However, not knowing how to slow down and be retired, he went to work for Middlefield Walmart, where he worked nights doing janitorial and maintenance work.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by four brothers; five sisters; and an infant son.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, who has faithfully taken care of him the past three years, Darlene M. Farnsworth, whom he married Oct. 12,1988; his daughter, Christine Maley (Matthew) of McDonald; his son, John Farnsworth Jr. (Tiffany) of Michigan; his five grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; and his best pup friend, Sam.

Friends and family may visit 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, with military services at 4 p.m.

To honor John, the family asks friends to wear a favorite pair of “blue jeans.”

A special thank you to Crossroads Hospice, University Hospital Ravenna, the Newton Falls Fire Department and the VA.
