Ellis Daniel Weston Jr. 1963-2026
WARREN — Ellis Daniel “Dan” Weston Jr., 63, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He passed in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers. His end-of-life care was expertly overseen by the Patriot at Home Hospice team, specifically nurse Krystal Ciuba and aide Becky Decker.
Dan, as he was known by most, was born Feb. 25, 1963, the first child of Ellis “Sonny” Weston Sr. and Janice Was Weston, who preceded him in death. A 1981 LaBrae High School graduate, he also graduated from Kent State University in 1985. While at KSU, he and Jackie Young met and began their life journey. They graduated together, married in 1988 and celebrated the birth of their son, Cole, in 1995.
Dan was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in many lay ministries but was most proud of his service as the parish guitarist for over 25 years.
Dan retired as a package car driver at United Parcel Service in 2018 after 34 years of dedicated service. He earned the coveted distinction of Circle of Honor Hall of Fame status after driving 25 years accident-free, and he wore the COH insignia on his uniform with pride until his retirement. His uniform represented excellence in his career and a high regard for the customers he served with a smile.
Ellis, as he was known by many others, played gigs professionally after retirement. He relished every moment playing in local bands — Memphis Soul Brew, RTR and Timeless Classics. While never one to take center stage, he gave it his all while rounding out their solid rhythm sections for all to enjoy. He also managed the Pamela S. Hood Auditorium at Champion High School, where his deep knowledge and skill of sound management were invaluable.
Jackie and Cole will continue Dan’s legacy of giving, loving and enjoying life, as Dan remains with them in spirit. Survivors also include brother, Thad Weston; nieces, Alyssa and Rayna Weston; sister, Tammy Shoman; niece, Rachel Shoman; aunt, Christine (Mark) Zust; sister-in-law, Jeanne Killen; nephews, Elliot and Taylor (Rachel) Killen; and grandnieces, Cat and Lizzie Killen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to ALS Therapy Development Institute. The ALS TDI mission is to research treatments for ALS and ultimately find a cure for this devastating, unrelenting disease. His page can be found by using the ALS TDI Take Action tab, browsing fundraisers and searching Dan Weston.
