Carl J. Popour 1948-2026
LEAVITTSBURG — Carl Jon Popour, 77 years old, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, after a short illness, with his loving family by his side.
Carl was born Aug. 22, 1948, in Lena, Wisconsin, to Fred and Beatrice French Popour.
He worked for Packard Electric for 32 years before retiring. In his retirement, he spent 13 years working with Jensen’s florist.
The military was a major part of Carl’s life. He roamed several European countries and states with his parents in his childhood, and continued to travel in his adult life, while serving in the military. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force the day after his high school graduation from Leavittsburg High School, in 1967. Carl lived on several state Air Force bases and did three tours of duty in Vietnam.
His favorite hobby was finding treasures in discount stores. He and Wendy searched all over Ohio for books, pens, wristwatches and radios to add to his collection. He also enjoyed tending to his garden and spending quality time with his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carl will be greatly missed by his wife, Wendy. He is also survived by his children, Jacqueline (George) Yost of Southington, John Popour and Jennifer (Jason) Tilley, both of Champion; his stepsons, Scott (Cynthia) Johnson and Tod (Kathleen) Johnson, both of Leavittsburg; and all 13 of his grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Beatrice.
Services for Carl will be held at noon on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the funeral home. Friends and family may call an hour prior to the service, at 11 a.m.
He will be laid to rest in Pine Knoll Cemetery in Warren.
