Winifred M. Nicholas 1946-2026
NILES — Winifred M. Nicholas, born Dec. 5, 1946, in Kinsman, passed away surrounded by the love of her family at Hospice House in Poland on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
She was the cherished daughter of George and Fannie Wheeler Nicholas.
Winifred was a strong, fiery woman whose resilience and determination defined her life. She faced challenges head-on and lived life on her own terms, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Beneath her tough exterior was a deep love for her family.
She dedicated many years of service as a ward clerk at Community Skilled Nursing Home, where her hardworking nature and straightforward personality earned her both respect and admiration.
She is survived by her loving children, Dixie Young (Jerry Young), Robert Nevison (the late Tammy Nevison), Jarod Nevison (Lisa Nevison), Ronald Westfall Jr. (Shelley Westfall) and Crystal Ward (Justin Ward). She also leaves behind her dear siblings, Sylvia Kolley, Thelma Hamilton and Charles Nicholas. Winifred was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren, Nicole, Nathaniel, Katie, Christopher, Jonathan,
Brandon, Alisa, James, Michael, Hayley, Savannah, Wyatt, Nichole and Charlie; and a loving great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren, all of whom meant the world to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Fannie Nicholas; her sister, Marvel Peel; and her daughter-in-law, Tammy Nevison.
Winifred will be remembered for her strength, her bold spirit and the unwavering love she had for her family. She was the kind of woman you never forgot — tough, spirited and deeply loved.
Her legacy will live on in the strength she passed down to those who knew her best.
Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, with a funeral service at 2 p.m., at Baumgardner Funeral and Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman.
Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
