Wanda Hawkins Thompson 1948-2026
NEWTON FALLS — Wanda Hawkins Thompson, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Newton Falls.
Wanda was born June 14, 1948, in Warren, a daughter of Eugene “Gene” and Doris Garland Hawkins.
She was a proud graduate of Newton Falls High School, Class of 1966. She was a founding member of the Hi-Fi Club that worked tirelessly sponsoring weekly dances for the youth of the community. Later she served on the parks and recreation committee.
Her passion in life was serving the VFW through the Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president for many years. Her greatest honor was being chosen to be president of VFW “District 8” of Ohio.
She is survived by her daughters, Tonya Dasch and Jeanette (Jeremy) Willoughby; her grandchildren, Brenden, Amber, Cody, Djay and Tyson; her great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jaxson, Addilyn, Rogan and Mia; her sisters, Sandee (Jack) Mathews and Kathy Rapczak; her nephews and nieces, Kirk (Stephanie) Mathews, Brad (Meredith) Mathews, Beth (Doug) Kereszturi, Kristie (John) Drake and Davie (Jen) Rapczak; and her best friend, Cher Gumino Waldorf.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Hawkins, on Dec. 17, 2025, and her brother-in-law, David Rapczak.
Services will begin at noon Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home, 30 Ridge Road, Newton Falls. Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Reid Lamport will be the officiant.
Cremation has taken place, and Wanda will be laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery.
