Thomas R. Clingerman 1945-2026

MIDDLEFIELD — Thomas Roy Clingerman, 80, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, peacefully at his home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1945, in Youngstown, a son of the late Herman and Helen Silvasy Clingerman.

Thomas built a house in Huntsburg in 1978 after leaving the Cleveland area and was a longtime resident of Middlefield. He worked as a meter reader and traveling operator for CEI and First Energy. Before retiring, he worked as a nuclear operator at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. After retiring, he continued working as a painter and handyman, including time with Sherwin-Williams. He also served as a taxi driver for the local Amish community.

On Aug. 21, 2003, Tom married Cheryl Salona in a special ceremony at the Anne of Green Gables House on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Together, they shared a love of travel and sightseeing. He was also an avid bicyclist, sailor and competitive chess player.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cheryl; and his brothers, Dean, Donald and Paul Clingerman.

He is survived by his daughter, Corrie Clingerman of Middlefield; his sister, Joanne (Bob) Dahmen of Mecca; his grandchildren, Seth and Dylan Clingerman; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Per Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial calling hours will take place 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield.

A reception at Tom’s Lake Street residence will follow the memorial for close friends and relatives who would like to attend.
