Nicholas Sostaric 1929-2026
WARREN — Nicholas “Nick” Sostaric, 97, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, at Antonine Village in North Jackson.
Nick was born April 2, 1929, in Youngstown, a son of the late Nicholas and Anna Herman Sostaric.
He was a graduate of Liberty High School and drafted into the United States Army. Upon returning home, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and began teaching first in Vermillion and then in Hubbard, where he was also the baseball coach. Later, Nick earned a master’s degree from Kent State University and was hired as the principal in Labrae, where he stayed until his retirement.
Nick loved life. He was a baseball fan, playing in his younger years, then coaching. Nick also enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He truly enjoyed being outdoors, and he could always be found improving his yard.
Nick was a dedicated member of Blessed Sacrament Parish for many years and enjoyed volunteering and visiting the kids in school. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with those he loved. Whether it was enjoying a beer or dining at Salvatore’s or Dunkin’, Nick appreciated quality time, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Nick will always be remembered by his nieces and nephews, Patricia (James) Polko, Christine (Lawrence) Gallagher, Joseph (Katherine) Sostaric, Pamela Marshall, Jennifer Sostaric, John (Christy) Sostaric, William (Ruth) Watson, Elisabeth (Michael) Alexander, Thomas (Chrissie Ann) Watson, Sara (Marshall) Lillquist, Thomas (Aaron) Moore and David Moore. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Clarinda Moore; and his dear friend, Randy (Celeste) Falter.
Besides his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dian; daughter, Kathleen; sister, Dolores (William) Watson; and brother, Herman (Barbara) Sostaric.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Nick during memorial calling hours 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483. A service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A private burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta Township.
