James H. ‘Buddy’ Caffie 1943-2026
WARREN — James H. “Buddy” Caffie, 82, a loving and caring father, son, brother, uncle and friend, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at his home in Warren. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends and all who had the blessing of knowing him.
Buddy was born Aug. 5, 1943, in Warren. He was a proud graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for the values he carried throughout his life.
A proud and honorable man, Buddy served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated over 30 years of hard work and commitment to Packard Electric, where he retired. During his time there, he was an active member of IUE-CWA Local 717 and served as a committee member. In this role, Buddy was respected for his fairness, integrity and steady voice in representing and supporting his fellow workers.
Buddy was a man of quiet strength, gentle spirit and unwavering kindness. He was known for being easygoing and humble and never one to seek conflict. He carried himself with a calm presence that brought comfort to those around him. Buddy was truly “unproblematic” in the best sense — he valued peace, treated others with respect and lived his life with simplicity, dignity and grace.
He had a deep love for bowling and could often be found at Crest Lanes on Monday nights enjoying time with his team. Buddy was also an avid sports fan who faithfully cheered for his favorite teams — the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Yankees. Whether watching a game or discussing scores, sports brought him joy and connection with others.
A devout Christian, Buddy attended Believers Church, where his faith was a guiding force in his life. He believed in kindness, patience and treating others the way he wished to be treated. Above all, he cherished spending quality time with his family, who meant everything to him.
Buddy was truly an old-school soul. He appreciated the simpler things in life and preferred the traditions and values of earlier times. He wasn’t fond of modern technology, choosing instead to enjoy life at his own steady pace. In his quiet moments, he found peace in listening to jazz and R&B music, especially the sounds of The O’Jays and The Temptations.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, James Reuben Caffie and Lucille B. Morgan, and his youngest sister, Linda D. Morgan.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Darren Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; Carmen Caffie of North Lake, Texas; and Edwin (Anita) Caffie of Warren; his sisters, Anna Wise and Betty Pinkney of Warren, and Freida Morgan of Columbus; his brothers, Edwin Morgan of Warren and Lewis Luke Morgan of Niles; his grandchildren, Brooks Caffie of Warren, Arrianna Caffie of Lordstown and Amari K. Ortiz-Caffie of Fort Worth, Texas; special friends, Charlena Caffie, James Davis, Samuel “Buzzy” Currie Jr. and his wife, Sara Currie, and Todd and Deanna Currie and their daughter, Samiya Currie; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Buddy’s life was a testament to quiet love, steady support and genuine goodness. He did not seek attention or praise, but his impact was deeply felt by all who knew him.
He will be remembered as a man who lived right, loved deeply and left the world better simply by being in it.
A celebration of life will take place Friday, April 24, 2026, at Monument of Faith Cathedral Church of God in Christ, 904 W. Market St., Warren, OH 44481. Calling hours will be at 1 p.m. with homegoing services following at 2 p.m.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Homestead Health Care Service, Southern Care Hospice Service and the Veterans Association for their care and support.
