Verlene Lowry Henderson 1924-2026
NILES — Verlene Lowry Henderson peacefully passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the age of 101.
Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Grassy Meadows, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clayborn S. and Alma J. Stevens Lowry.
Verlene’s early years were spent in West Virginia, where she attended Grassy Meadows schools and Smoot High School. On Sept. 6, 1946, Verlene married her beloved husband, Eugene F. Henderson, in Front Royal, Virginia. Together they shared 64 wonderful years until his passing July 18, 2011. Her life journey would take her through various states, residing in Newton Falls for 28 years, followed by 26 years in West Palm Beach, Florida; 18 years in Brooksville, Florida; and finally six years in Niles.
Verlene was a member of First Christian Church in Newton Falls and involved with the American Legion there. She always enjoyed caring for her houseplants and gardening. She was a skilled seamstress with a love for sewing. She found joy in word searches and jigsaw puzzles and loved watching game shows, especially “The Price Is Right.” Verlene was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. After their retirement in Florida, Verlene and her husband would enjoy traveling and sightseeing in their RV.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donald Henderson (Judy) of Oro Valley, Arizona, and Glenn A. Henderson (Jane) of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey; daughter, Karen Bresnahan (Patrick) of Niles; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Lowry (Joyce) of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Iris Lackey of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Keith Henderson and Rodney Lowry; and her siblings, Belva Hartley, Ermal Harris, Virginia Wolf, Evelene Gilkson, Bertha Williams and Delvon Lowry.
Family and friends are welcome 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Yoskovich Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, Pa., where a funeral service will take place at noon.
Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Davistown, Pa.
