Richard J. Heber 1947-2026

NEWTON FALLS -- Richard J. Heber, 78, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at Burton Healthcare Center.

He was born on May 3, 1947, in Warren, a son of the late James Elmer Heber and Florence Linda McKibben Heber. Dick lived his entire life in Newton Falls and graduated from Newton Falls High School, Class of 1965. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He married the love of his life, the former Betty Ann Howard, on July 17, 1971; they enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage together.

Dick worked at General Motors-Lordstown as a material handler/coordinator for over 39 years, retiring in 2006. He loved golfing, playing bocce, studying history, spending time with his grandchildren and friends, and watching sports. Dick also volunteered his time working the suicide hotlines and coaching varsity soccer. Dick was a member of the former First Congregational Church in Newton Falls, AMVETS Post 112; VFW Post 3332 and American Legion Post 236.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence Heber.

Dick is survived by his wife, Betty A. Heber of Newton Falls; one daughter, Coleen and Anthony Marquette of Newton Falls; one son, James and Amanda Heber of Rootstown; one sister, Linda and Kermit Morris of Leavittsburg; two nieces, Beth and Tara Harkless; one nephew, Rick Cunningham; and four grandchildren, Cody, Cole, Cruz and Lilly.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with Pastor Jennifer Dorn officiating.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Military honors will be performed by the Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard.

Cremation will follow the funeral service.

He will be laid to rest in Newton Falls Cemetery.
