Patricia Matheson 1942-2026

CORTLAND — Pat Matheson of Cortland passed peacefully in her home Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Dec. 15, 1942, in Philippines, W.Va., to Emmett and Eveline Haddix, and she moved to Ohio at the age of 9.

Pat married the love of her life, Charles “Buzz” Matheson, April 14, 1958. Together they founded Howland Alarm Company in 1969.

Pat played an upright bass in Family Pride bluegrass band for 42 years, which brought her so much joy.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte (Jeff) Daugherty, Jesse (Barb) Matheson and Cindy Matheson (Mitch Meadors); a brother, Emmett (Debbie) Haddix Jr.; grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Loar, Samantha (Brian) Kropp, Jake (Tori) Daugherty, Jared (Amber) Daugherty and Mitchel Meadors-Matheson (Grace Masur); great grandchildren, Bryce, Jordyn, Evie, Lainey, Harlow and Harvey; nieces and nephews that loved their “Aunt Pat” so much; and many of the children’s friends that called her their “Second Mom.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Linda; and brother, Tommy.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers that helped with Pat over these past months, Colleen, Marge, Terri, Amelia, Elayne and Ohio Living Hospice.

A service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with the funeral to follow at Crown Hill Burial Park , Vienna.
