WARREN -- Florence E. Carthorn, 94, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
She was born July 4, 1931, in Warren, a daughter of the late Hersey Sr. and Mamie Grayson Scippio.
A longtime resident of Warren, she worked at Saratoga Restaurant for 30 years, serving as the lead cook and retiring in 1995. Florence gave birth to two girls, the late Joyce Morgan and Sherry Carthorn. Florence enjoyed watching the late-night shows, game shows, working crossword puzzles, cooking, spending time with her family, and most of all, reading her Torah, as Florence was of the Jewish faith.
Florence lived a very private and peaceful life, but she loved having meaningful conversations with those she loved and being cared for and spoiled by her daughter, Sherry, and granddaughter, TuShalla Carthorn. She also always loved when all her grandchildren would come and visit her -- those who live in the area and those who live out of state.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry E. Carthorn of Warren; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, her siblings, three sisters and one brother, Gloria Cox, Edna Scippio, Beatrice Spiva and Hersey Scippio Jr.; one daughter, Joyce Morgan; and one grandson, Anthony Davis, preceded her in death.
Friends and family will be received 11 a.m. to noon Friday, March 27, 2026, at Believers Chapel, 2609 Weir Road NE, Warren.
A graveside service will take place 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Pine Knoll Cemetery, Warren Township.
