Ernest G. Leeworthy 1943-2026

CHAMPION — Ernest G. Leeworthy, 82, entered into eternal rest Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 17, 1943, in Warren, the son of Emerson M. and Vera M. Coons Leeworthy.

Ernest attended Champion schools and worked as a press operator for Ohio Corrugating and American Cap. A man of many talents, Ernest loved to sing and was never one to turn down an opportunity for karaoke. He loved to dress up as Elvis and he was a big fan of Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Ernest was fond of his trips to Tennessee and casinos. He enjoyed old cars and going to car shows. He liked to relax by playing cards, watching TV and playing bingo, and he cherished his time fishing with his grandkids.

He was a member of Beacon of Hope Baptist Church.

Precious memories of Ernest live on with his beloved wife of 61 years, Judy Miller Leeworthy, whom he married Dec. 14, 1964; three daughters, Linda Shammo (Kevin) of Powell, Tennessee, Lisa Hinkle (Daniel Sr.) of Cortland and Goldie Lewis (Daniel) of Vienna; eight grandchildren, Daniel Hinkle Jr., Kyle Hinkle, Mark Hinkle (Nicole), Dakota Lewis (Sydney), Danielle Lewis, Allen Lewis, Kyla Shammo and Jace Shammo; nine great-grandchildren, Izabella Hinkle, Kylee Hinkle, Gracie Hinkle, Mason Hinkle, Daxton Lewis, Tytan Lewis, Letty Lewis, Lilith Lewis and Ryan Connor Shammo; two brothers, Kevin Leeworthy (Mary) of Zebulun, North Carolina, and Art Leeworthy (Mary) of Champion; and many nieces, nephews and their families who love Ernest and will miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Vernina Ivey, Wanda Habovick, Elizabeth Thompson and Audrey George; and four brothers, Emerson, Frederick, Richard and Joseph Leeworthy.

Calling hours are 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, where services will begin at 4 p.m., with Pastor Garry Hennessey officiating. All who know and love Ernest are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.
