Eleanor Mathews 1939-2026
MADILL, Okla. — Eleanor Mathews passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 19, 2026, after a brief illness, at her residence.
Eleanor was born Jan. 28, 1939, to the late Howard Clarke Barbe and Grace Anna Barbe in Bristolville.
Upon graduation from Mecca High School in 1957, she met Ed Mathews, a young salesman who worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co.’s Farm Store in Warren. After a brief courtship, they married on April 23, 1960, and together they shared 61 years of marriage and their children, Barbara Ann, Charles Wayne, Mary Beth and chosen son, John Elkins. They were also blessed with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Eleanor is survived by all her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchild.
Upon Ed’s retirement from Sears, they moved to Oklahoma, where they owned and operated Barnacle Bill’s Marina on Lake Tenkiller in Tahlequah, Lake Murray Marina in Ardmore, and Bridgeview Marina in Madill.

Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2026, in Lordstown Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Edward.
