Doris Adeline Nye Maffitt 1934-2026
CHAMPION — Doris Adeline Nye Maffitt, 91, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026.
She was born May 3, 1934, in Montour Falls, New York, the daughter of John Barlow Nye and Ethel Mae Ganung Nye Woodworth.
Doris was a graduate of Southington High School and was employed at First Federal Savings and Loan, Packard Electric and as an LPN at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital for 14 years. Also, Doris volunteered 4,500 hours at St. Joseph Warren Hospital gift shop. She was a member of the Trumbull County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, where she was president from 1996 to 1997 and held other offices, and the Nye Family of America Association. She was also active in the chancel choir, ladies aid and other committees at Champion Christian Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, poetry, dancing and genealogy.
She is survived by her son, Glen (Debby) Maffitt of Johnston; daughters, Janice (Thomas) Bruner of Cortland and Karen (Brian) Arnold of Champion; grandchildren, Benjamin Maffitt of Kinsman, Sarah (J.R.) Polk of Johnston, Stephanie (Neil) Grantz of Mentor, Rebecca (Marko) Klisovic of Moreland Hills, Corey (Nicole) Bruner of San Mateo, California, and Steven Arnold of Champion; and great-grandchildren, Jaron, Kiersten, Gemma, Giada, Max, Allison and Dean.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Justin Woodworth; her husband, whom she married in 1952, Delbert Leroy Maffitt; and siblings, Helen Brink, Otis Nye, John Nye, Donald Nye and Betty Lendway.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Champion Christian Church.
Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Interment will be in Champion Township Cemetery, Champion.
The family requests material contributions be made to the feeding ministry at Champion Christian Church in her memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
