WARREN -- Sally Palmer, 77, left this life to join heaven on Thursday morning, Feb. 12, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Sally was born June 28, 1948, in Warren, a daughter of the late Jack and Caroline Habosky Matthews.
She attended school in Cortland and graduated in 1966. After completing high school, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University. She then began a remarkable 36-year teaching career at Cortland Elementary School. For 23 years, she devoted herself to teaching first grade, and for 13 years, she inspired fourth graders with the same dedication and care. By the end of each school year, she had earned the love of her students, many of whom went on to achieve great success. She will always be remembered as an exceptional educator.
Sally will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 53 years, Jim Palmer, whom she married Oct. 7, 1972; her son, Jim (Stephanie) Palmer; two granddaughters, Ruth and Eleanor; sisters, Sue Moore and Donna (Mark) Arnal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends may visit noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St., Cortland.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
A private burial will take place in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.
