NORTON -- Oland Elliott Durst, 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026.
Born July 23, 1949, in Cortland, he was the beloved son of Dolores and Robert Durst.
Oland graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967. Oland also was a proud United States Air Force veteran and a graduate of Kent State University.
Oland lived a full and active life centered on adventure, learning and connection. He loved traveling, camping, reading, music, cooking and, most of all, spending time with friends and family. A high-level pickleball player and cornhole champion, he embraced friendly competition and camaraderie. He visited all 50 states, many National Parks and Mexico, collecting pins everywhere he traveled as treasured keepsakes of his journeys.
A true music enthusiast, Oland especially loved the sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. He made friends wherever he went and valued the connections he built throughout his life, including during his time as a member of the Elks Lodge, Pymatuning Sailing Club and full-time RVing across North America. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his warm smile and his positive outlook on life.
Oland was preceded in death by his mother, father and partner, Cathy Brewer.
He is lovingly survived by his son, Scott Durst (Michelle Dela Cruz); his daughter,
Jennifer Kirby (Robert Kirby); his grandchildren, Alexis and Kayla Kirby; the stepmother to his children, Merra Lee Durst; the Murphy family of Cortland, whom he affectionately referred to as his second family; and his beloved dog and furry son, Chuy.
Oland's life was one of adventure, laughter and lasting friendships. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
