Lester W. Hileman 1936-2026

CORTLAND — Lester W. “Les” Hileman, 89, a former longtime resident of Howland, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, of heart failure, at Otterbein Senior Living.

Les was born June 12, 1936, in Grove City, Pa., a son of Clair and Mary Porter Hileman.

At an early age, the family moved to Niles. Les was a 1954 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Following graduation, Les proudly served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

Following his military service, he was employed at RMI Titanium, where he met the love of his life, June A. Mills.

During his working years at Ajax Magnethermic, Les earned a degree in industrial engineering from Kent State University. He later retired as plant manager after 30 years of employment.

Les was an active member of Howland United Methodist Church for over 60 years, serving on most committees at that time. He was also a master Mason in Old Erie Lodge No. 3 and a member of Mahoning Chapter #10 RAM.

Les’s most cherished time was spent with his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed and forever in our hearts.

He and his wife loved the time they had traveling the world together in their retirement years. His favorite hobby was woodworking and he made some beautiful pieces. He really enjoyed watching the car races on TV when he had time.

Precious memories of Les live on with his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, June Ann Mills Hileman, whom he married June 30, 1961; his daughter, Julie Sharon (Gary) of Howland; his daughter-in-law, Teresa McCoy Hileman of Whidbey Island, Washington; three granddaughters, Lauren Sharon, Lindsay Portier (Jacob) and Shura Hileman; one grandson, Max (Karin) Hileman; and four great-grandchildren, Keawe Gibbs, Jameson Portier, Benjamin Portier and Eva Hileman. He was also considered to be everyone’s favorite uncle by numerous nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Curtis Hileman and Kevin Hileman, and his brother, Robert Hileman.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Les on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Howland United Methodist Church, 730 Howland Wilson Road NE, Warren, OH 44484. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m., with funeral services following at 11 a.m.
