Larry Allen Engle 1951-2026
CORTLAND — Larry Allen Engle, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, just shy of his 75th birthday, with his loving family by his side.
Larry was born March 2, 1951, in Buckhannon, W.Va., a son of John and Virginia Ratcliff Engle.
He graduated from Warren Western Reserve in 1969 and remained a lifelong resident of Trumbull County. Larry dedicated 46 years of work at Republic Steel through RG Steel, retiring as maintenance supervisor in the boiler house, where his loyalty and work ethic reflected the steady, dependable man he was throughout his life.
He was a devoted husband to Jill Pykare Engle; a loving father to his son, Daniel (Cindy) Engle of Howland, and his daughters, Julie (Andrew) Christofaris of Vermont, and Katie Engle (Michael Naleck) of Youngstown; and a proud grandfather to Danny Ray Engle and Jaxson Naleck. He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Grace) Engle of Cortland; his sister, Barbara Engle of Vienna; and his beloved cat, Millie.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Engle; his brother, Jack Engle; and his sister-in-law, Pamela Engle.
Larry loved camping in Pennsylvania, bicycling, astronomy, beach glassing along the shores of Lake Erie and greatly enjoyed his backyard pool. He had a quiet strength and a dry sense of humor that never left him. He was loyal, hardworking and the kind of man his family could always count on. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services, and his body will be donated to The Lerner College of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic to further scientific research — a final act of generosity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved him.
The family asks that donations be made, in his memory, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org, or the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, awlrescueme.com.
