James R. Hartman 1950-2026

WARREN — James Robert Hartman, 75, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.

He was born March 4, 1950, in Warren, a son of the late Gordon R. and the late Jesse “Marie” Shockey Hartman.

James was proud of his military service in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona, eventually serving in Vietnam and Thailand.

He worked as a machinist at Daum and Dewey in Vienna and later for the Tribune Chronicle as a district sales manager. Most recently, he worked for T.L. Express in Mantua as a truck driver.

James attended Delightful Church in Southington, where he served as a trustee and usher, and sang bass in the choir. He enjoyed playing golf, collecting M&M and Santa Claus figurines, woodworking and trains. He looked forward to having breakfast with family and friends and going to Yankee Kitchen for liver and onions. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Guardians and a proud fan, “Yes I Am,” of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie Fechter Hartman of Warren, whom he married Aug. 22, 1970; son, Craig Hartman of North Canton; daughter, Tina Cleal of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Shirley DeJean of Vienna; brothers, David (Sue) Hartman of Leavittsburg and John Hartman of Vienna; grandchildren, Kymberli, Brandan and Auston Cleal, all of Brunswick, and Drew Hartman of North Canton; first cousin, Robert Scheitrumph of Warren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Hartman King and Louise Hartman Bryant; and special friends, James Kinter and Joe Bednarcik.

Services will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Chuck Campbell will officiate. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
