Dorothy Welk 1943-2026

HOWLAND -- Dorothy Scheidegger Welk, 82, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born Sept. 26, 1943, in Youngstown, Dorothy was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Watters Scheidegger.

A 1961 graduate of Liberty High School, Dorothy grew up on Liberty Street, later moving to Logan Arms Drive. She enjoyed many happy days as a member of the Logan Swim and Tennis Club.

Dorothy began her career on the assembly line at Packard Electric, where her strong work ethic and determination led her to the prototype department. There, she was entrusted with gathering parts and building harnesses -- a role she carried out with pride and precision. Her remarkable dedication was reflected in her perfect attendance record throughout her 36 years of service before retirement. In addition to her career, Dorothy was also a top Avon saleswoman in her district, a testament to her drive and friendly spirit.

On Oct. 10, 1964, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Welk. Together they built a life centered on faith and family, living in Cortland for many years as members of St. Rose Church in Girard and later attending Blessed Sacrament Church after moving to Warren.

Dorothy found joy in life's simple pleasures -- fishing, playing cards and watching her favorite television programs. Dorothy also enjoyed going out and about with her loving caregiver, Teresa, who meant so much to her.

Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 62 years, Ken; her daughters, Leslie Welk (Gary Torpy) of Santa Monica, California, and Wendy (Brian) Degitz of Poland; her cherished grandson, Jared Degitz; her sister, Patricia (Robert) Alexander; and many adored and treasured nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard (Patricia) Scheidegger; and her sister, Rosemary (Steve) Colucci.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, where a funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, P.O. Box 66, Vienna, OH 44473.
