Vivian Ann Cowger 1933-2026

NILES -- Vivian Ann Cowger, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026.

Born July 24, 1933, in Big Issac, W.Va., Vivian was the daughter of the late Donald and Blanche Knight Bennett. She was a longtime resident of Niles and a graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School, Class of 1950, in Clarksburg, W.Va.

Vivian worked as a bookkeeper / secretary and was employed for many years with Cowger Tree surgeons, where she was known for her dedication, precision and strong work ethic. She was a member of North Mar Church and enjoyed traveling, making chocolate and spending time caring for others. Vivian was known to have a love for animals and cared for many pets throughout her life. She was also affectionately remembered by her family as "The Candy Lady."

Vivian was especially proud of earning her pilot's license, an achievement that reflected her adventurous spirit, independence and determination. At a time when few women pursued aviation, she embraced the challenge and carried that same confidence and fearlessness throughout her life.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Nathan Edward Cowger; one sister, Virginia Bennett; two brothers, Donald Raymond and Kenneth Richard Bennett; and granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole Cowger.

She is survived by her son, Denny Elbon Cowger Jr. (Linda) of Niles; her grandson, Denny Esme Cowger; and her great-grandchild, Eve Cowger.
