NEWTON FALLS -- Virgil Lee Owens, 72, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, after an extended illness in Akron.
Virgil was born July 17, 1953, in Braceville, the son of the late Early and Marie Broome Owens.
Some of Virgil's favorite pastimes were fishing, listening to music and dancing.
He is survived by his children, Aleatha Barnes, Tangela Hugley, Vernesha Owens, Ver' Dajsa Owens, Aswald Owens, Lance Owens, Javail Owens, Rodrick Taylor and Tarayl Fleming; siblings, Darlene Owens of Sharon, Pa.; Valerie Owens, Shree Johnson and Theresa Scott, all of Warren; Trevis (Yana) Owens of Smyrna, Georgia; and Fern (Mark) Shaw of Warren; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by one son, Virgil Owens Jr.; and siblings, Lance Owens, Darius Owens and Rahn Owens.
A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at Believers Chapel, 2609 Weir Road NE, Warren. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in Braceville Township Cemetery.
