Rita Franko Benson 1946-2025
WARREN — Rita Franko Benson, the oldest child of Rita Dobry Franko and Albert Stephan Franko, born Dec. 28, 1946, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, of natural causes.
Rita lived her entire life in Warren, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in 1964. She worked in production at GM Packard Electric for eight years before entering the tool and die apprenticeship program. She was very proud to be only the third woman to successfully complete the program. She went on to retire from Packard in 1999 after 36 years of devoted service.
Rita was an avid animal lover, as proved by rescuing many animals over the years. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and mahjongg, thrift shopping and raising patches of her very beautiful orchids.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Rita D. and Albert S. Franko of Warren; along with two brothers, Albert J. (Linda) Franko of Bellevue, Nebraska, and James A. (Pauline) Franko of Tamarac, Florida.
She is survived by her children, Shawn R. Benson of Howland and Sally Benson (Charles) Richards of Warren. She is also survived by a sister, Maria M. Franko of Willow Springs, North Carolina, and a brother, Mark J. (Kelly) Franko of Cortland.
At her request, there will be no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date.
