WARREN -- Leroy "Ed" Thompson, 95, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2026, at The Suites at Continuing Healthcare of Niles.
Ed was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Warren, a son of the late Leroy and Marie Thompson.
He was a Howland High School graduate and a proud veteran of the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Capel Thompson, on Sept. 18, 1954, and began their family together.
He worked as a tool and die maker at Packard Electric until he retired in 1996.
In his younger years, he was known as the neighborhood dad to the kids and would help fix anything they needed. He was a true family man and was involved with all his children's activities. He also was active with his son's Boy Scout troops, especially building their derby cars. He loved working with wood and was a handyman to anyone that needed help. He enjoyed visiting with "the crew" and drinking coffee at Andrews. He was also a lover of animals.
He was a member of Howland Community Church, where he was a trustee emeritus.
Ed will be deeply missed by his loving children, David Earl (Beth) Thompson and Denise Evelyn (Edward) Newhouse; grandchildren, Dana, Sean, Brad, Amanda, Davis and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Millie and Madelyn; brother, Bill (Flora) Thompson; sister-in-law, Janet Biggin; and his dog, Lily.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Evelyn Thompson; son, Dennis Thompson; daughter-in-law, Kim Thompson; and sisters, Irene, Patricia and Virginia.
Family and friends may visit 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Lane Funeral Homes Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.
