WARREN -- John "Jack" J. Simcox Sr., age 87, passed peacefully Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined not by titles or accolades, but by a lifetime of faithful service.
Jack served his country, his church, his family, and his neighbors with steady devotion, never seeking recognition -- only the quiet satisfaction of doing what was right.
Born on Aug. 9, 1938, in Barberton, Jack was the son of Arthur Floyd Simcox Sr. and Mary Tetzel Simcox.
He graduated from Windham High School in 1956 and soon after answered the call to serve his country, proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1961.
On June 11, 1966, Jack married the love of his life, Betty M. Hoschar Simcox. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, building a home rooted in faith, commitment and love.
Jack was a devoted husband and a steady, loving father to his children, Frank D. (Barbara) Wilson, Janet M. (Greg) Traphagen, Sherry A. (Steve) DeFord and John J. (Karrie) Simcox Jr. He found immense joy in his role as "Bumpa / Papa / Papaw," adoring his grandchildren -- Jackie DeFord Cook, Andrew DeFord, Bethany Wilson Schrock, Molly DeFord, David Wilson, Manny DeFord, Johnny Simcox III, Daniel Wilson, Micah DeFord, Josh DeFord, Emilee Simcox and Ian Simcox -- and was blessed with 19 great-grandchildren, whom he wildly adored.
Jack retired from GE Ohio Lamp after nearly 40 years of dedicated service, reflecting the same quiet work ethic and loyalty that marked every area of his life.
An avid reader, gardener, and enthusiastic traveler, he enjoyed exploring the United States, but his most profound joy was spending time with his family.
On May 13, 1979, Jack was born again and committed his life fully to God. He was a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church for 47 years. He served as Trustee, Head Usher, and caretaker, performing countless acts of service - many unseen, all heartfelt. His faith was lived daily, not loudly, through humility, dependability, and love.
Jack was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur Simcox, Nancy Huegle, Frank Simcox, Bob Simcox and Shirley Simcox.
He is survived by his brother, Jim Simcox.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at Christ Memorial Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior.
A graveside committal service will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna, reserved for family.
John J. Simcox Sr. lived a life of service -- faithful, generous, and steadfast. His legacy is found in the people he loved, the work he quietly completed, and the example he leaves behind for generations to follow.
