Janet Nader 1952-2026
CORTLAND — Janet Nader, 73, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, after an incredibly brave and fierce 45-year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Jan was born April 18, 1952, and raised in Niles, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy Nader.
In her youth, Jan was an avid and legendary softball player who was known for knocking the ball out of the park. Jan also enjoyed serving as coach to many softball teams and spent most of her summers on the ball fields at Waddell Park. After graduating from Niles McKinley High School in 1970, Jan attended Kent State University, where she studied business management. Jan spent most of her career with the 7-Eleven Corporation, managing several area stores before her retirement. It was through her work at 7-Eleven that Jan met the love of her life, Stephen Champagne.
Jan married Steve on April 3, 1982, and they resided in Canton, Michigan, for most of their lives. Together, Jan and Steve celebrated over 42 years of marriage before Steve’s passing in 2024. Jan cherished the life she built with Steve in Canton, including the loving and devoted friendships she shared with the Earl, Thomas, Piazza, Somerton, Bekemeier, Perez and Burkhardt families. Jan’s marriage to Steve also brought her into the embrace of the Champagne family, whom she loved dearly.
The eldest of five siblings, Jan excelled in her role as big sister, leader of the pack and chief enforcement officer. Wherever she led, whether it was by example, mischief or adventure, her younger siblings happily followed.
Jan is survived by her siblings, Chuck (Mary) Nader of Niles, Joel (Debbie) Nader of Las Vegas, Nevada, Anthony (Danielle) Nader of Yorba Linda, California, and Rachel (Bill Schrader) Nader of Cortland, with whom she made her home. Jan was also a proud and devoted aunt to her five nieces, Lindsay (Kalani) Castro of Kahlua, Hawaii, Alyssa Nader of Oakland, California, Emily (Michael Kelly) Schrader of Fairlawn, Arica Nader of Oakland, California, and Katie Schrader of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by her great-nephew and great-niece, Gavin and Cady Castro of Kahlua, Hawaii.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy Nader, and her husband, Stephen Champagne.
Special thanks to Becky and Pete Bucco for their tireless help, support and kindness during Jan’s final journey. Special thanks also to her home team of angels, Rachael, Adriana, Jackie, Jennifer and Jamie, for their comfort and care of Jan. Lastly, thanks to Lexi, Jen and the rest of the staff of Grace Hospice for their compassion and care.
Per Jan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be planned at a later date. For those wishing to honor Jan’s memory, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of their choice.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Holloway-Williams Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, OH 330-652-2422. Visit www.hollowaywilliamsfuneralhome.com to view this obituary and send condolences to Janet’s family.
