Frank R. Sloat 1932-2025
WARREN — Frank Rea Sloat, 93, peacefully passed into the Lord’s home on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at Windsor House in Champion, leaving a life marked by faith, devotion and the love of family and friends.
Frank was born on Sept. 29, 1932, in Kenton, Ohio, the son of Frank L. Sloat and Thelma Skidmore.
At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In 1952, after serving in Korea as an air traffic controller and radar technician, Frank returned home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Norma Jean Guliuzza, exactly one month later. They were blessed with 65 years of happiness together. Frank spent 15 years working as an HVAC technician at Thompson Heating and Cooling before retiring in 1998.
Frank was proud of his military service and continued to honor his country by volunteering with the Mahoning Valley Korean War Veterans, Chapter 137, where he faithfully served in several roles, including treasurer, secretary and chaplain. A man of strong faith, he was also devoted to his church, where he regularly served as liturgist.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Kim McLeod of Champion and Tarey (Danny) Balash of Mineral Ridge; his sisters, Sondi (Bob) Jordan and Sherry (Kevin) Iden; four grandchildren, Dana Lyn Uber, Derek Balash, Zach (Randy) McLeod and Emily (Nathan) Starcher; and three great-grandchildren, Leah Uber, Liam Uber and Nora McLeod.
In addition to his parents, he was reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Norma Jean Sloat, whom he loved dearly.
A private celebration of life will be held at his home church, Ohltown United Methodist Church in Mineral Ridge, Ohio.
In place of flowers, the family kindly invites those who wish to honor Frank’s memory to consider making a donation to a local animal rescue — a charity that was especially close to his heart.
Carl W. Hall Funeral Home is honored to assist with these arrangements.
